New-build heavyside merchant
CHALLENGE
Trading from rented premises on an industrial estate. Both warehouse and yard were too small for an expanding Heavyside business. There was an opportunity to do a new-build on a green-field site.
RESPONSE
Analyse current stock ranges and, through discussion with management, determine range additions and expansion. Use this to determine site, yard warehouse & trade counter needs.
RESULT
Design the whole business the building footprint / location on the site – including a ‘drive through’ for covered loading of customer vehicles. Brief architect on the concept and work with him through planning to final detailed site layout. Defining traffic flow, parking, loading, un-loading, goods-in, space allocation and stock location for yard, warehouse and trade counter areas. Specify total yard, warehouse and trade counter racking requirement. Project manage the tender and eventual installation processes.

Within 2 years of beginning to trade from these new premises, the owners were contacted by one of the ’supermerchants’ who purchased the business, describing it as above. The Directors now spend a lot more time on the Golf Course!
